The Scribblorists gathered last December 14, 2024 at the Milky Way Café in Makati for a Christmas celebration with the theme: “Santa’s Secret Scribblers.” The event transformed attendees into ‘literary elves’, with everyone donning green tops complemented by festive headpieces provided by Scribblory. The party was not only a joyful culmination of the year but also a testament to the enduring power of storytelling and community.
This first Christmas party I had with this community of writers was somehow a very special occasion for me because I got to revel in the shared joy of their craft.
This event was also a unique blend of festive cheer and literary camaraderie. Imagine the warmth of a cozy room, filled with the soft hum of conversation, and scribblers' exchange of experiences at that time. The holiday celebration might be up, but the real glow comes from the shared passion for writing. Each of us brought our own flavor to the gathering, whether it was the witty, the funny, the thoughtful, or the sharp insights of a writer.
The event began with an Opening Prayer led by Aiko, followed by warm Greetings and Welcome Remarks from Elaine. Attendees were immediately immersed in a series of engaging activities designed to blend the festive spirit with the creativity that unites every writer in Scribblory.
Literary Santa’s Scroll Writing: Facilitated by Niche, this activity invited participants to list their Christmas wishes on scrolls, which were later placed in a shared Christmas pouch.
Collaborative Storytelling: Elaine led the group in crafting a lighthearted holiday tale. Each participant contributed a line or two, resulting in a hilariously festive story that showcased the group’s collective wit and imagination.
Exchange Gift: Facilitated by Uly, participants exchanged gifts in a rotation based on a specific number, adding a layer of surprise and delight.
Christmas Pictionary: Aiko’s game of festive drawing brought out everyone’s competitive side, as participants raced to complete their illustrations based on holiday-themed words.
Before the afternoon came to a close, participants were encouraged to draw one of Santa’s Scrolls from the pouch and keep the recipient in their thoughts and prayers, hoping their Christmas wish would come true.
Elaine concluded the event with a Closing Prayer, followed by a heartfelt Group Photo that captured the camaraderie and joy shared by everyone.
Writing could often be a solitary endeavor, where long hours were spent in front of a laptop or journal. But during that Christmas party, that solitude was replaced with the camaraderie of like-minded individuals who understood the struggles and joys of creating stories. It was a chance for me to network, get tips, and find the spark for a future collaboration. But beyond the professional talk I had with these people, this gathering was also a space for friendship where writers like us bonded with a shared love of language and imagination.
Of course, no party would be complete without a bit of fun. To maintain that festive spirit, we played some awesome and unique writer-related games in the latter part. Indeed, it was a chance to laugh, unwind, and embrace the lighter side of creativity. In the end, the Scribblory’s Christmas party was more than just a holiday celebration. It was a reminder of the power of storytelling, the joy of community, and the magic that happens when writers come together. As we said our goodbyes, we carried with us not just the memories, but also the inspiration and energy to keep writing.
